Dozens of churches cancel, delay service after winter storm

The icy roads are one of the major reasons why.

Most of the snow in our area is now frozen and roads are slick.

“It’s dangerous to ask someone to come to a church service and their life could be at risk,” said Pastor Willie Robinson at Kingdom Life Church.

340 religious organizations total in central North Carolina closed their doors for service. Including 8 in Garner

Robinson said they've been virtual since last March because of the pandemic.

He said Friday's storm and current conditions are even more of a reason to stay virtual.

“So much ice on the road. I would never put our folks in danger, or anyone for that for that matter," said Robinson. "It’s just not safe. It’s not safe to do it.”

By bringing his services online he said he’s found people have been more prone to participating.

“Because they don’t have to dress, they don’t have to get a cup of coffee they can sit right there and they can enjoy the services right from the comfort of their home,” said Robinson.

He said the ability to handle adjustments is what makes his ministry and his community great.

“We’re getting ahead of the adjustments and we’re moving with it," said Robinson. "We’re leading the change of adjustments in this particular season.”
