Sheriff: Woman, 17-year-old killed in Aberdeen home invasion because of drugs; 9 people arrested in connection to double homicide

A Moore County woman and a 17-year-old are dead after the two allegedly shot and killed each other Sunday afternoon during a home invasion.

The case became even more complex as the week progressed.

Nine people have now been arrested in connection to this double homicide, and Moore County Sheriff's investigators are now saying this all happened because of drugs.

Timeline

Oct. 8

At 4:15 p.m., there was a deadly home invasion in Aberdeen.

Tynasha Collins, 23, was found shot to death in her home in the 100 block of Forest Circle.

A teenager, believed to be one of the people responsible for the home invasion, was shot by Collins during the invasion.

Someone drove the teen to the hospital, where he was treated for life-threatening injuries.

Moore County Sheriff's investigators seized more than 15 pounds of marijuana, 241 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 144 grams of oxycodone, 125 grams of cocaine and 38 grams of THC. Investigators also seized numerous firearms from the home.

Oct. 9

17-year-old Darius Nicholson, of Richmond County, was identified as the teen who was shot by Collins.

Nicholson died at the hospital.

Investigators learned there was a shootout between Collins and Nicholson and said the double homicide was drug related.

Oct. 10

Moore County Sheriff’s investigators, Aberdeen police and the Richmond County Sheriff's Office executed simultaneous search warrants at three residences in Moore and Richmond counties in connection to a home invasion and murder.

The following people were arrested after police searched the homes:

Trevell Semaj Wade, 22, of Hamlet

Wade was charged with murder and was committed to the Moore County Detention Center without bond pending a first court appearance of Oct. 25.

Noah Edward Harrington, 18, of Aberdeen

Harrington was charged with one count of accessory after the fact to murder and was committed to the Moore County Detention Center under a $225,000 secured bond pending a first court appearance of Nov. 8.

Jaidon Rafael Lachin Stockey, 21, of Aberdeen

Stockey was charged with one count of accessory after the fact to murder and was committed to the Moore County Detention Center under a $225,000 secured bond pending a first court appearance of Nov. 8.

Shakeanma Takelia Hubbard, 37, of Aberdeen

Hubbard was charged with one count of accessory after the fact to murder and was committed to the Moore County Detention Center under a $225,000 secured bond pending a first court appearance of November 2, 2023.

A 15-year-old from Aberdeen

The teenager was taken into secure custody through the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice for one count of accessory after the fact to murder.

Oct. 11

The following people were arrested:

Cynthia Gay Ross, 59, of Aberdeen

Ross was charged with felony conspiracy and felony maintaining a dwelling place for controlled substances. She was committed to the Moore County Detention Center under a $95,000 secured bond pending a first court appearance of Oct. 25 in Moore County District Court.

Dajwan Quintaj Monroe, 21, of Hemingway, South Carolina

Moore County Sheriff’s investigators located Monroe at a hospital near Wilmington. Monroe was shot during the home invasion on Oct. 8 and had checked himself into the hospital under a fictitious identity. With the assistance of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe was arrested and charged with murder.

Oct. 12

Following medical treatment, Monroe was committed to the Moore County Detention Center without bond pending a first court appearance on Oct. 25.

The following two people were also arrested:

17-year-old from Southern Pines

Moore County Sheriff’s Investigators executed a search warrant in the Southern Pines area of Moore County in connection with the investigation. They took custody of a 17-year-old through the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice for one count of murder.

Christopher Kant Verbal, 26, of Aberdeen

Verbal was charged with the following crimes:

• Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule I controlled substance
• Felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance
• Felony trafficking opium or heroin
• Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance
• Felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance
• Felony trafficking in cocaine
• Felony possession of cocaine
• Felony possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine
• Felony trafficking in marijuana
• Felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana
• Felony possession of marijuana
• Possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance
• Two counts of felony possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance
• Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance
• Felony maintaining a dwelling place for controlled substances
• Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
• Misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia

Verbal was committed to the Moore County Detention Center under a $500,000 secured bond pending a first court appearance of Oct. 26 in Moore County District Court.

The investigation into the homicide is ongoing.
