Northwest Durham residents no longer under advisory to boil water

As of Saturday afternoon, residents in the northwestern portion of the City of Durham are no longer under an advisory to boil water.

"Based on laboratory analysis of water samples collected from the City of Durham on Friday, Durham water users are hearby notified that Durham Water no longer advises boiling water used for human consumption," officials said in a release.

On Friday, residents were asked to boil water after water pressure issues. According to the city, a section of Durham experienced periods of low pressure and outages in the water distribution system due to operational issues.

No pressure or low pressure can increase the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

People were urged to boil water vigorously for one minute to kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water. That includes water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation. People can also use bottled water.

Consumers were also asked to conserve water whenever possible.
