A man was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in Chapel Hill.
At 1:04 a.m., the Chapel Hill Police Department responded to a shooting in the 100 block of Ashley Forest Road. When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as 37-year-old Adam Abdur-Rahman of Chapel Hill, with a gunshot wound. He was transported to UNC Hospitals, where he later died.

Chapel Hill Police told WRAL News that they are currently speaking with a person of interest, though no charges have been filed at this time.
One resident said they heard six gunshots around 1 a.m.
He stayed up until 2 or 3 a.m. watching the police response. However, It wasn't until the next morning that he realized a bullet had entered his apartment, leaving a hole in the wall.
"I woke up this morning and went into my kitchen, and I saw a big bullet hole that had come through," William Rankins, Chapel Hill resident, said. "If I had been up, fortunately, I wasn't in the kitchen, or I would have gotten hit."
Rankins, who has lived in the area for 17 years, says it is typically a safe and quiet neighborhood, home to many families and older residents.
Police said their investigation led them to 45-year-old Mario Chrishunn Thompson of Chapel Hill. Officers arrested Thompson and charged him with the following:
- First-degree murder
- Discharge of a weapon into an occupied dwelling (2 counts)
Thompson is at the Orange County Detention Center under no bond. His first court appearance is at 2 p.m. Thursday.
