Woman found shot on I-40 East near Cary, all lanes reopen

A shooting investigation on Monday slowed traffic along Interstate 40 East near Cary.

Around 6:30 a.m., officers with the Raleigh Police Department responded to a shooting in the eastbound lanes of I-40 near Exit 290 for Chapel Hill Road, close to Cary.

Police investigations centered around a white SUV. Part of I-40 road was blocked until 8:30 a.m., when the SUV was moved out of the lanes. Delays were present.

A woman was found with a non-life-threatening single gunshot wound to the leg, police said. She was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Broadcastify radio traffic provided more information about the shooting:

"This is going to be a shooting. We’ve got gunshot wounds going through both legs."

"We’re doing patient care right now. She’s got GSW to the left thigh femur exit. No exit wound on the right leg."

Police said no one was arrested, and the shooting does not appear to be a road rage incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
