A Zebulon family is mourning the death of their father and son, who was shot and killed early Thanksgiving morning, police said.
Just before 1:30 a.m., Zebulon officers were dispatched to a shooting in a neighborhood on W. Barbee Street at Primrose Place. When officers arrived, they found 55-year-old Robert Cummings unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Family members told WRAL News that Robert Cummings was shot in his front yard. Police said he lived on the street.
Damain Cummings, Robert Cummings' son, created a GoFundMe page to help with expenses.
Damain Cummings' said his life was changed forever when gunshots rang out in his quiet neighborhood on Thanksgiving.
"I am thinking...I am just getting up," Damain Cummings said. "Maybe it's not real. Maybe it's a dream."
Robert Cummings' mother, Cora, said she heard it all play out from where she lives right down the street.
"I heard two shots and I said, 'That sounds just Robert,'" she described.
Damain Cummings said he will always remember his dad as an artist and a mechanic.
"Anything with cars I would be able to ask him...now I don't have anybody to ask," he said.
An arrest or suspect has not been announced. Damain Cummings said he just wants answers, asking anyone who knows anything to come forward.
"My thing of it is put yourself in my shoes," he said. "If this was your family member would you want your family to go unknown or have peace of mind?"
The investigation is ongoing.
