KINSTON, N.C., The BBQ Fest on the Neuse in Kinston now holds the Guinness World Record for the Most BBQ sandwiches sold in 8 hours.

For the 44th year, the BBQ fest has brought thousands of people to Kinston from across the state.

The two-day festival began Friday night and by 3:30 p.m. on Saturday there were over 4,775 sandwiches sold, setting the new world record.

Mike Perkins, a Wayne County resident, said he’s been competing for the last three years and looks forward to this event every year.

“We enjoy cooking barbecue,” said Perkins. “We’ve done it for years at our local volunteer fire department, and we just decided ‘hey lets try a competition.’”

1st: Pocosin Boys
2nd: Curley’s Que Crew
3rd: Baker Boys BBQ
4th: Beach Boys BBQ

Backyard Competitors:
1st: Throwing Smoke
2nd: Pork Stars
3rd: Little Doo Que

Best Sauce:
1st: Pocosin Boys
