Nonprofit research institute RTI International on Thursday announced temporary layoffs for 226 employees across the United States, including 61 people in North Carolina.
The layoffs are due to the ongoing pause on U.S. foreign assistance, RTI International said, and it's unclear when the positions will return.

FHI 360, a Durham-based nonprofit that advances equity, health and well-being across 60 countries, furloughed 36% of its U.S. staff. A spokesperson for FHI 360 said they temporarily laid off more than 200 employees because of the "pause of U.S. foreign assistance funding and programs."
