Myrtle Beach City Council is one step closer to a potential smoking ban on public beaches.
On Monday, the North Myrtle Beach City Council passed a first reading on a proposed smoking ban for public beaches.

The city’s current smoking ordinance regulates smoking in enclosed public spaces, workplaces and certain outdoor areas.
With the proposed new amendment, smoking and the use of e-cigarettes would now be prohibited on public beaches as well as beach walkovers, dune crossovers and public beach access points.
This new ordinance purpose is to reduce fire risk, improve beach cleanliness by removing cigarette pollution and provide a smoke free environment for non smokers.
