100 flights canceled at RDU, thousands more across the US, as Northeast snow snarls travel

A blizzard in the Northeast is creating more than 100 cancellations and a handful of flight delays at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

At 8 a.m. on Monday, 113 flights at RDU were canceled, and nine were delayed, according to the flight tracking website FlightAware. Be sure to check with your airline before heading to the airport.

The interruptions come as a snowstorm hitting a large swath of the northeastern United States keeps people at home. The Associated Press reports snow fell at a rate of 2 to 3 inches an hour early Monday from New York through Massachusetts. Some areas have gotten well over a foot of snow since Sunday, along with wind gusts of over 30 mph and low visibility.

In New York, Long Island MacArthur Airport reported 22.5 inches of snow as of Monday morning.

More than 5,000 flights in and out of the U.S. were canceled for Monday, according to FlightAware. Most were canceled in New York, New Jersey and Boston.
