Oct. 1-3: Raleigh Wide Open Music Festival - This downtown festival is rooted in Raleigh, featuring live bluegrass, Americana, folk, R&B, norteno, and gospel plus an art market, food and drink, and fun for the whole family.

Oct. 2-3: Triangle Oktoberfest - Over 50 beers, traditional Bavarian food, wiener dog races, inflatables and face painting, hammer-striking competitions and more at Koka Booth Amphitheatre.

Oct. 2-3: Selma Railroad Days - This family-friendly event features live entertainment, delicious food vendors, unique craft and merchandise vendors, a kids' zone, community exhibits, and activities for all ages

Oct. 3: Falling for Local at Dix Park - Enjoy live music from local talent and demos from local businesses all day long as well as loads of fall fun with hayrides, inflatables, lawn games, kids' activities, photo ops and a pumpkin patch. Dine from 50+ local food trucks, sample NC craft beers and cider. Dix Park Big Field from 11 a.m. to 6  p.m. 

Oct. 3: Oktoberfest at Lafayette Village - A festive afternoon celebrating all things fall, including live music, delicious food and the annual wiener dog race. Bring your pets; there is something for everyone. 1-4 p.m.   

Oct. 3: Fall on First Avenue - This festival at Knightdale Station Park has pumpkin painting, hayrides, live music, a craft fair, food trucks, a mum sale, inflatables, and more. 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. 

Oct. 3: Taste of Asia -  Celebrate Asian food, culture, music, dance, and community in Moore Square.

Oct. 3: Celebrate Fuquay-Varina Festival - Celebrate the town of Fuquay-Varina with live entertainment, craft beer, food trucks, an artist village and a kid’s zone.

Oct. 3: Holly Springs Diwali Celebration - A day of celebration, music, and festivities for the entire family.

Oct. 3: Wendell Harvest Festival - The event runs 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in Ashley Wall Towne Square with vendors and food trucks, a parade, nacho-eating contests and more.

Oct. 4: Move-a-Bull City - Blackwell, Corcoran, and Foster streets in Durham will be closed for cars and open for people. A variety of activities spanning arts, music, local government, food, wellness, and physical activity will take place along the corridor. Walk, bike, roll, dance, skip, or boot scoot your way through downtown.

Oct. 1: Jonas Brothers - The Burning Up Tour is at Lenovo Center Thursday night.

Oct. 2: Heroes Off Duty Comedy Tour - A side-splitting comedy showcase of cops, firefighters, doctors, EMTs, nurses, pharmacists, and ex-military in Raleigh.

Oct. 2-3: The Music of Pink Floyd with The Machine - The NC Symphony performs at Meymandi Concert Hall.

Oct. 3: Fortune Feimster -  The comedian, actress and host comes to DPAC.

Oct. 3: Indigo Girls - The folk duo performs in Raleigh.

Oct. 4: Weezer - The Gathering Tour comes to Lenovo Center.

For a good cause

Oct. 3: Wag-O-Ween - Pawfect Match is joining US Dog Coalition for a fun community event at Aviator Brewing Co.

Oct. 3: Cars and Coffee - This classic car day in Durham features food trucks and cars older than 1979. The event raises money for breast cancer research.

Spooky fun

Pumpkin patches, corn mazes and haunted attractions are open for the fall season. WRAL has a list of scary and family-friendly adventures to enjoy the entire month of October.

Oct. 2-4: A Haunting in Holly Springs - This murder mystery comedy tells the story of a retired rock star trying to settle down in a spooky home in North Carolina.

Oct. 2: Spooky First Friday: October's First Friday will feature the 1984 hit Ghostbusters. The movie will begin at 7:15 p.m. The market and food trucks will start at 5:30 p.m.   

Oct. 3: Fall Film Series: Beetlejuice - See the classic at Durham Central Park. Movie starts at 7:30 p.m.
