The Wake County Public School System is investigating how two teens ended up on a Broughton Magnet High School bus where they didn't belong last week, and whether they were students.
It's not uncommon for students to end up on the wrong school bus, but it's unclear whether the two people in question from Thursday's incident were students.

A message from Broughton Principal Janiece Dilts referred to the unauthorized riders as adolescents.
"The driver immediately had them exit the bus," Dilts wrote.
Dilts said the school is working with district transportation officials to review the incidents and to make sure safeguards are in place to prevent an incident like this from happening again.
In 2024, the school system explored the idea of having students scan barcodes to get on and off of a bus, so that the school could better make sure students were allowed to be on the bus and to better track their whereabouts for parents and guardians. It's unclear where that proposal stands now.
