An 11-year-old girl was found safe in North Carolina on Tuesday nearly six years after she was kidnapped from her home in Los Angeles County, California.
The girl, who was not named due to her age, was located in Washington County, N.C., where she was enrolled in school under an alias name, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The girl was kidnapped on June 2, 2020, when she would have been around the age of five.

Deputies in Los Angeles County notified Washington County officials, and the girl was located. No additional details were shared about her living situation in North Carolina to protect her privacy and the investigation.
"These are very rare occurrences to have such a positive outcome on such an old case as this, but it reminds us that through hard work, and dedication, and cooperation. Stories with positive outcomes like these can happen," the sheriff's office posted on Facebook, thanking "the multiple agencies from California and here in NC for the assistance and cooperation in this."
