Downtown Raleigh intersections to be closed for water system repair

Those driving in downtown Raleigh Thursday night should be prepared for detours.

The city will close the intersections of South McDowell and West Hargett streets, South McDowell and West Martin streets, and West Martin and South Salisbury streets from Thursday at 8 p.m. until Friday morning at 4 a.m. to work on water system repairs.

No disruption in water service is expected.

Drivers are asked to follow signs in the area. Traffic detours will be in effect:

• Northbound S. McDowell St.: Drivers should merge into the left lane at W. Cabarrus Street. Traffic will return to normal after W. Hargett St.
• Eastbound W. Hargett St.: Drivers should turn right onto S. Dawson Street, left onto W. Martin Street, and left onto S. McDowell Street.
• reetWestbound W. Martin St.: Drivers should turn left onto S. Salisbury St., right onto W. Davie Street, and right onto S. McDowell Street.
