Thousands of Johnston County residents may be temporarily unable to call 911 from their landlines, officials said Wednesday morning.
The service disruption reported at 8 a.m. impacts 9,418 Brightspeed landline customers in the Kenly, Smithfield and Fuquay-Varina areas, according to Johnston County 911 Communications.

Brightspeed is working on the issue, but a repair time was not announced.
People impacted by the outage are urged to use their cellphones to call 911 until the issue is resolved.
