A Hoke County woman faces possible animal cruelty charges after a variety of creatures were found dead or living in unsafe conditions at her home in Red Springs.
Deputies responded to the home around 10 a.m. Wednesday and found dead animals on the property. The homeowner, Melissa Iglesias, 45, was not there.

A search warrant was used, and Hoke County Animal Control officers seized various dead animals from the property, including ducks, chickens, a peacock, mice and rats, birds and reptiles.
Several living animals were rescued by animal control officers and rescue groups, including three dogs, three cats, a donkey, fish and various reptiles, including lizards and turtles. Isopods, sometimes called "rollie pollies," were also seized.
Officials were able to use some kennels, tanks, food and other items from the property to care for the rescued animals.
An investigation is pending.
