Apex police are reminding others to stay vigilant and alert after a woman described being followed by a suspicious man on a walking trail.

On Friday, a woman reported that a man said something unintelligible to her while she walked on Apex Community Park Lake Trail near Lake Pine Drive. She then walked away and thought he was following her. She believed he had a knife in hand, so she yelled for help. Another woman on the trail walked with her to her car.

Police are looking for the woman who helped the distressed person for assistance in the investigation. If you were at Apex Community Park and noticed anything suspicious, you're asked to call the police at 919-362-8661.

The man was described as wearing a black T-shirt with black sweatpants and red and white shoes. He was wearing a mask at the time, according to police. The interaction occurred on the north side of Apex Lake.

Officers urge parkgoers to remain aware of their surroundings and carry a phone with them if possible. There will be an increased presence along the trail during the investigation.
