A man is dead after police officers in Butner said he was shot following a road rage incident.
According to the town of Butner, public safety officers respond to a crash around 6:33 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Gate #2 Road and the I-85 northbound off-ramp. While on their way to the crash scene, dispatchers told officers that a victim at the scene was shot.

When they arrived, officers found 63-year-old Broderick Hines of Durham with a gunshot wound. Hines was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
"This is a tragedy," said Granville County District Attorney Mike Waters. "We are going to, along with law enforcement, talking to them about their rights as victims."
Waters added that the shooting was a "completely random act."
According to a preliminary investigation by Butner authorities and the State Bureau of Investigation, the altercation appeared to start on I-85 over a possible road rage incident. Witnesses told investigators they saw an orange Jeep Wrangler pull up to the passenger side of another car and began shooting.
With assistance from the Vance County Sheriff’s Office, authorities arrested Travis Randall Jones and Marquita Blue and charged the two with first-degree murder and firing into an occupied vehicle.
Both Jones and Blue are at the Granville County Detention Center under no bond. Their first court appearance will be on Wednesday, April 23.
