Ravenscroft School, a private school in Raleigh, will hold a celebration of life Sunday for a teacher murdered earlier this year.
Zoe Welsh, a 20-year teacher at Ravenscroft School, died on Jan. 3, 2026, after police say Ryan Camacho, 36, broke into her home on Clay Street and assaulted her during an attempted burglary. The two don’t appear to have known each other.

Camacho was charged with her murder and remains in jail.
According to court documents, Camacho has a lengthy criminal history going back more than a decade in both Wake and Durham counties. Court records show Camacho has been arrested more than 20 times.
The memorial for Welsh has been moved several times because of winter weather. Sunday's celebration of life is not open to the public or members of the media.
In January, WRAL News spoke with Welsh's former students.
“She really cared for her students,” said Calysa Sauls, one of Welsh’s former students. “She definitely was one of those teachers who was passionate about the subject that she taught.”
