Central Carolina Community College began providing free tuition for qualifying high school graduates in 2018. The Central Carolina Promise program is available to high school graduates in Chatham, Harnett and Lee Counties. Recipients must have graduated within the past two years to receive this aid.
On Feb. 9, Central Carolina Community College announced an expansion of the program, the new Central Carolina Promise Plus scholarship.

This will offer students who graduated more than two years ago free tuition to the college. To be considered, applicants must be a Chatham County resident and have lived in the county for at least one year prior to applying, have a high school diploma, and meet the requirements of the Promise Plus Student Checklist.
This program is funded by the Chatham County commissioners, and is currently only open to Chatham Co. residents.
"Everyone must follow their own path in life, and sometimes that means we are better positioned to pursue higher education later in our journey," said Chatham County Board of Commissioners Chairman Amanda Robertson.
The Carolina Promise/Carolina Promise Plus programs are 'last dollar' programs. They provide funding to fill in financial gaps left by federal aid. Currently, these programs do not cover the cost of textbooks or other course materials.
Priority is given to applicants who do not yet have a college degree. Although, everyone is encouraged to apply.
