Chapel Hill High school investigates antisemitic disruption during Zoom meeting

Chapel Hill High School officials are investigating after an individual interrupted and shared antisemitic content during a school Zoom meeting for the families of their senior class. School leaders say the interruption lasted about 90 seconds before the individual was removed from the meeting.

Chapel-Hill High School officials are investigating after an individual disrupted a Zoom meeting for families of their senior class.

During the interruption, the individual shared antisemitic and other hateful content and claimed to be the leader of a national hate group. School officials removed the person from the meeting within about 90 seconds.

Patrick Greene, principal of Chapel Hill High School, issued a statement to staff and families after the disturbance. "There is no place for antisemitism, hate or harassment in any school community. We unequivocally condemn this behavior and stand with our Jewish students, families, staff and community members who were targeted or affected by what occurred," Greene said. "I also want to acknowledge that this occurred between the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, times of celebration and atonement in the Jewish faith."

Greene also assured staff and families that an investigation is ongoing, He said the school and school district are working on ways to strengthen the security of virtual meetings and will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
