Chatham County commissioners unanimously passed a resolution opposing the proposed Enbridge pipeline, citing the impact on the environment, lower-income residents and lack of project details.
The resolution authorizes the county "to take those steps allowed by law, supported by the facts and otherwise reasonable and prudent to resist development of the Pipeline."

Julia Wright, a local affairs representative from Enbridge, said that while the utility may not agree with every conclusion, it respected the board's work. Wright said Enbridge will remain engaged with the community as the project moves forward.
According to Enbridge, the pipeline would run from U.S. Highway 64 in Siler City to U.S. 1 in Lee County. The company has argued that the project is necessary to support the fast-growing area.
Hundreds of residents packed a board of commissioners meeting in August to voice their concerns about the project.
The commissioners on Monday tabled a public hearing about proposed zoning changes, which Enbridge says would require a special use permit for each parcel the proposed pipeline would cross. They plan to take it up at the October 9 meeting.
