A Siler City woman is facing dozens of animal cruelty and abandonment charges after investigators say she left multiple animals without proper care at a Chatham County property.
According to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Herb Beavers Road on July 9 after receiving a report that animals had been abandoned. Investigators said they learned the property’s resident, 37-year-old Maggi Elizabeth Brady, had reportedly left the home in June.

Brady has been charged with two counts of felony animal cruelty and 26 counts of misdemeanor animal abandonment. The sheriff’s office said the warrants have not yet been served.
Neighbors told deputies they found two pigs confined inside a fenced enclosure without access to food or water and released them to prevent further harm. Deputies also found chickens, ducks, rabbits and a dog on the property that investigators said had been left without adequate care.
The sheriff’s office and the Chatham Sheriff’s Animal Resource Center (ARC) later executed a search warrant and spent several days recovering as many animals as possible. ARC staff seized two turkeys, one rabbit, 22 chickens and one dog. Officials said several other animals had wandered onto neighboring properties, where residents agreed to care for them.
The recovered animals are now available for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis at the Chatham Sheriff’s Animal Resource Center in Pittsboro.
Investigators also said Brady has outstanding warrants from a separate Chatham County Sheriff’s Office investigation and is believed to be actively attempting to avoid arrest.

The sheriff’s office is also encouraging anyone who suspects an animal is being neglected, abused or abandoned to report it to local law enforcement or animal control so the animals can receive care as quickly as possible.
