Phase One of the Airport Boulevard extension project is underway and the North Carolina Department of Transportation launched a tool to provide real-time traffic updates for the duration of the project. 

The corridor between Garden Square Lane and Church Street in Morrisville is under construction to provide a direct route between Davis Drive and Chapel Hill Road. The town said this will improve access to the Research Triangle Park, Interstate 40, and the Raleigh Durham International Airport.

The completed corridor is proposed to include:

  • Two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction
    • 20-foot raised median
      • 5-foot sidewalk on the north side
        • 10-foot multi-use path on the south side
          • Posted speed limit of 45 mph

            The $13.3 million project is expected to be complete in November 2028. The town of Morrisville received funding for phase 1 of the project from the NC Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO). The town is working with NC Dept. of Transportation Division 5 to manage planning and design.

            The second phase will begin when funding is available.
