Nash County deputies arrested a Nash County corrections officerand accused her of trying to smuggle drugs into prison.

Deputies found 0.2 pounds of the synthetic cannabinoid known as K2 and 0.04 pounds of suboxone wrapped in clear plastic inside Shanese Sanders’ car while conducting a probable cause search.

The Nash Correctional Institute contacted the Nash County Sheriff’s Office about Sanders trying to smuggle drugs inside the prison.

The sheriff’s office said Sanders was trying to smuggle the drugs into the prison and give them to an inmate.

Sanders, 37, of Enfield, faces felony charges of:

  • One count of possession with intent to sell or distribute synthetic cannabinoid
    • One count of conspiracy to deliver synthetic cannabinoid
      • One count of possession with intent to sell or distribute a Schedule III controlled substance
        • One count of conspiracy to sell or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance
          • Two counts of possession of a controlled substance on prison premises

            Sanders posted $70,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office. She is due in court on Saturday.
