A serious crash is blocking the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Cary during the morning commute.

The crash was reported before 9 a.m. on Monday at Exit 287 for Harrison Avenue, blocking at least three lanes. At 9:30 a.m., the closure had improved to two lanes.

Three cars appeared to be involved, including a black car in the median and another car on its side. 

Heavy delays were present, including in the eastbound lanes, due to onlooker delays.
