A crash involving multiple vehicles sent three people to the hospital and brought traffic to a crawl Monday night on Interstate 40 in Raleigh.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, the crash happened at 8:23 p.m. around the Hammond Road and South Saunders Street exit of the interstate.

Police said a wrong-way driver caused the crash when they hit another driver head-on. Police were unsure how the driver began driving in the wrong direction.
Three people were sent to the hospital, and the status of their injuries is unknown.
All lanes reopened by 12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
