D.G. Martin, a lawyer who served in administrative leadership roles for the University of North Carolina and contributed opinion columns for Capitol Broadcasting Company, died on Tuesday.

Martin's most recent work was as host of host PBSNC’s "North Carolina Bookwatch" and radio shows on 97.9 FM and 1360 AM radio station WCHL in Chapel Hill. David Crabtree, CEO of PBSNC, confirmed that Martin had passed.

Martin was born in Atlanta, raised in Charlotte and served in the U.S. Army before settling in the Queen City. He ran twice for Congress in the 1980s, and served the state for years as vice president for public affairs of the UNC System.
