An RV fire spread to a home and claimed the life of a dog in Weldon on Easter Sunday.
Weldon Fire Department crews responded to the incident on West 3rd Street around 12:15 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, firefighters said an RV close to the home was engulfed in flames and heavy smoke was coming out of the house.

People inside the home made it out safely and told crews their dog was still missing, the department said.
Weldon fire crews then called for help from Roanoke Rapids Fire Department due to strong winds pushing the fire into the home. More than two dozen firefighters responded.
Firefighters pushed into the home to put out the fire and find the missing dog. They found the dog inside and carried it out so Halifax County EMS crews could treat it, but ultimately the dog died to smoke inhalation.
Crews were able to put out the fire and stayed on site for a couple of hours to monitor for hot spots.
The American Red Cross was called to help two people who were displaced by the fire. No one else was hurt.
According to WFD, a mechanical issue in the RV sparked the fire before winds spread it to the home.
"We would like to thank our neighboring agencies with their assistance with this incident," WFD Deputy Chief Ben Sloan said.
