A Franklin County school bus driver has been charged after a crash Tuesday morning that sent 13 students to area hospitals.
Franklin County Schools said the driver was charged with careless and reckless driving and failure to maintain lane control. The driver has been suspended with pay pending the completion of the district’s investigation.

The crash involved Terrell Lane Middle School Bus 328 on Alert Road north of Louisburg. Franklin County Emergency Management said the call came in at 8:12 a.m.
The school district said 19 students were on the bus at the time of the crash. Thirteen students were taken for further medical evaluation, while six were released to their parents at the scene. The bus driver was also taken for medical evaluation.
The district said the driver and all 13 students who were transported have since been discharged. No life-threatening injuries were reported.
Several agencies responded to the crash, including Franklin County EMS, local fire departments, law enforcement, and emergency management officials.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
