A driver was charged after police said they hit a student who was getting off a school bus Tuesday afternoon in Durham.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. at Myra Street and University Drive, according to Durham police.

Gregory Woolford said he witnessed the scene and saw two stretchers near the crash.
“I noticed there were two stretchers and I was like, ‘Oh, I thought it was two kids,’ and I found out a day later, the mother was one of the people on the stretcher,” Woolford said.
Police said the student suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Investigators said the driver was charged with a school bus stop-sign violation.
Durham Public Schools said the bus was not one of its buses and the student was not one of its students.
The incident comes as Durham Public Schools recently presented an idea to improve stop-arm enforcement. The proposal involves new legislation that would allow electronic speed-measurement systems in school zones.
WRAL has asked Durham police for additional information:
- an update on the student's condition
- which school the student attends
- the driver's identity,
- direction the driver was traveling
- whether the student was crossing multiple lanes of traffic.
A police spokesperson said there were no updates on the child's condition or the school they attended.
WRAL has submitted a public records request and is working to get answers to those questions.
