A man is facing charges after the sheriff’s office said he shot a dog during an armed robbery on Sunday.
Isiah Holeman, 18, of Durham is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony larceny, possession of stolen goods, carrying a concealed gun, going armed to the terror of people, assault by pointing a gun and cruelty to animals.

The dog survived and received treatment from a veterinarian, according to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said around 11:46 p.m. Sunday, two masked people approached two men on their porch on East Club Boulevard near Constance Avenue in Durham. According to the sheriff’s office, one of the suspects armed with a handgun demanded a cellphone.
After the phone was handed over, a dog belonging to one of the men charged and the suspects and bit one of them on the leg, the sheriff’s office said.
Holeman is accused of shooting the dog before he and the juvenile ran away.
Deputies found both Holeman and the juvenile along Glenn School Road. One of them tried to run when deputies arrived. The juvenile had a leg wound “consistent with a dog bite.”
EMS treated the juvenile on the scene. Authorities released the juvenile to a parent.

Authorities are holding Holeman at the Durham County Detention Center, where a magistrate denied him bond.
