Durham assistant police chief accused of hitting car and leaving Apex crash scene due in court

A Durham assistant police chief is due in court Tuesday a month after he was cited in a crash in Apex.

Raul Garcia was cited on Friday, Aug. 7, after police said he sideswiped a vehicle on N.C. 540 and left the scene. Garcia was driving a city of Durham vehicle.

Garcia was placed on paid administrative leave.

Garcia, who works in Durham but lives in Apex, was cited for hit-and-run, leaving the scene, failing to report an accident and failing to maintain lane control. He was cited by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
