The Durham County Sheriff's Office said crime is slightly down from last year.
The sheriffs office released its crime statistics for the first nine months of this year.

When comparing Jan. 1 through Sept. 30 of this year to last year, there was a 4 percent decrease in what the office says its "top eight crimes," which includes murder, sex offenses, robbery, aggravated assault, motor vehicle theft and arson.
This year there were 137 crimes in those categories, versus 143 last year.
The sheriff's office said said it has had 111 firearm incidents with 129 firearms seized, 32 reported stolen and 31 recovered or found.
Looking ahead to the final few months of the year, the sheriff's office in October had recovered seven stolen vehicles across the county reportedly taken from Durham, Wake and Lee Counties.
Sheriff Clarence Birkhead also pointed to a bust last week of a methamphetamine sting operation in a local Durham neighborhood.
In July, the sheriff's office released crime stats for the first six months of the year saying that the county had see a 26 percent drop in the top eight crimes.
There were 42 crimes in those eight most serious categories in the first half of 2024 in Durham County. In 2025, that number was 31.
