Durham police on Tuesday said two crime scenes -- a drive-by shooting on Lodestone Drive and a crash of an SUV in a yard about a mile and a half away -- were related, but they did not say what that connection was.
Darryl Whitley, 43, of Durham, died in the crash in the 3400 block of Wake Forest Highway/NC-98 early Saturday morning.

Minutes before that crash, officers responded to a shooting at a home in the 500 block of Lodestone Drive. A shattered glass door and more than a dozen evidence markers were visible there, but police said no one was injured.
It's not clear what connection Whitley has to the shooting, whether he fired a weapon there or was the victim of gunfire.
