Durham couple shares near-miss experience with B52 bomber on Delta flight

A smooth and friendly flight out of Minneapolis became alarming for a Durham couple.

Marjorie and Dominic Santoro were on the Delta-operated SkyWest jet when it nearly missed an Air Force B52 Bomber.

“If you look out your right window, you see ground, you look out your left side, you see air,” Marjorie Santoro said.

At the time the passengers did not know what the pilot avoided until the plane landed safely.

“You could see the pilot and his copilot when we were getting off, they were sweating,” Marjorie said. “They looked very, very distraught and obviously relieved.”

SkyWest said air traffic control had cleared the plane for landing. According to air force, the tower also never told the bomber about the Delta flight.

Despite near miss, the Santoros said they will not be deterred and plan to fly again.
