Durham Public Schools has fired its senior executive director of employee relations, Ayesha Hunter, who was charged with six counts of felony obstruction of justice and two counts of perjury last week.
Hunter had been suspended with pay since Dec. 19. That’s when law enforcement executed a search warrant at district offices.

The school board approved Hunter’s termination Tuesday night following closed session. Hunter earned $134,000 per year.
Hunter’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Two other officials were also charged in the case related to an autistic 6-year-old child allegedly being tied to a chair and the subsequent district investigation into it.
Tanya Giovanni, the district's deputy superintendent of administrative, legal, and compliance services, remains suspended with pay. Giovanni was charged Feb. 5 with five counts of felony obstruction of justice.
Tounya Wright, the former Eno Valley Elementary principal, resigned Jan. 31. Wright was charged with three counts of felony obstruction of justice and one count of perjury.
