East Morgan Street lanes closing in downtown Raleigh for capital improvement project

A month-long lane closure on East Morgan Street in downtown Raleigh begins Monday, impacting drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.

Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 9, the city of Raleigh will close two travel lanes, one bike lane and street parking in the 100 block of E. Morgan Street between S. Wilmington Street and S. Blount Street. 

The work will continue daily, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., until Thursday, July 3.

The closure is part of the city of Raleigh's capital improvement plan, which includes a water and sewer line replacement project that will replace aging or deficient infrastructure.

According to the project page, "much of the water and sewer infrastructure in this area is highly critical and in poor condition."

There will be no detour during the construction, as one travel lane on E. Morgan Street will remain open for eastbound traffic. Parking restrictions will also be enforced.

Drivers are asked to be alert, looking for signs and crews to direct traffic. Delays are expected, and drivers may wish to use alternate routes.

There will be no disruption to water or sewer service for nearby homes and businesses.
