Joy Jasmin Williams, an 18-year-old high-school student, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and assault by strangulation on a minor, and sexual battery.
The alleged assault was unconnected to Williams part-time job at a daycare center.

Children's Lighthouse of Apex, where Williams worked briefly before the arrest, released a statement which said, in part:
"We are aware of the situation involving a former part-time assistant teacher at our school. We want to assure our families and the community that the incident in question occurred at a private residence and did not involve any students or take place at Children’s Lighthouse of Apex.” Children's Lighthouse of Apex
According to school officials, Williams was hired after a full background check from the state, and had started working at the daycare in March of this year. While working at the daycare, she worked limited afternoon hours and was never left alone with children.
Officials said once they were made aware of the incident, they took immediate action, and assured Williams no longer works there.
“Although this is a personal matter, these allegations are deeply troubling and do not reflect the values, mission or guiding principles of Children’s Lighthouse. Our top priority is and will always be the safety and well-being of the children in our care. We encourage all questions regarding the case to be directed to law enforcement,” the statement continued.
Williams is expected to appear in court on May 7. She is being held without bond.
