Dismissal was delayed Friday afternoon at Fox Road Elementary School in Raleigh after staff heard a threat broadcast on their walkie-talkies.
Police were called and the school went on Code Red lockdown -- no one allowed in or out -- within minutes of the scheduled dismissal time of 3:45 p.m.

Police determined that the threat was a hoax.
In a note to parents, Principal Beth Keefer wrote, "Please take the time to talk to your child about the serious consequences of making a hoax threat, including the possibility of criminal prosecution and suspension from school. Students should always feel comfortable sharing any genuine concerns they have with a staff member."
By 4:30 p.m., the school campus was determined to be secure, and the lockdown was lifted.
"We understand that lockdowns are stressful for students, staff and families, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation," Keefer wrote. "School counselors will be available on Monday for any student who may need additional support related to this incident."
