A final salute and funeral service for a western North Carolina firefighter killed during Helene was held Tuesday.
The Fairview Fire Department and Garren Creek Fire Department honored Battalion Chief Tony Garrison, who died in the line of duty on Sept. 27.

Garrison served as both a battalion chief with the Fairview Fire Department and a firefighter with the Garren Creek Fire Department, dedicating his life to the service and protection of his community.
A final salute was held as Garrison's remains were transferred to the church for private services. A drive-by salute took place along Charlotte Highway during the procession.
The funeral service was private and by invitation only, in accordance with the family's wishes.
