Father charged with attempted first-degree murder after 2-year-old left with spinal fracture

Garner police arrested the father of a 2-year-old child after the child was hospitalized with serious injuries earlier this month.

Kiran Pasunuri, 44, is now charged with attempted first-degree murder, along with two counts of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury and two counts of felony negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.

According to court documents, the child suffered severe head trauma and a fractured spine. The court documents also claimed that Pasunuri failed to get the child medical attention right away.

According to court records, Pasunuri is being held in the Wake County Detention Center under a $200,000 bond.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 20.

Garner police officers said Wake County District Attorney’s Office and medical staff are also looking into the case.
