A man and a woman were arrested on Tuesday after Granville County deputies said the two sexually abused three victims and then tried to escape the country.
According to the Granville County Sheriff’s Office, investigators were notified in March of a possible case of child abuse and sexual assault. During their investigation, the sheriff’s office identified two suspects, Luis Angel Resendiz and Jo Anne Lancaster, and learned of a second victim who may have been abused and sexually assaulted.

In August, the sheriff’s office said a third victim came forward.
During an investigation, the sheriff’s office learned that Resendiz and Lancaster had run from the area and were on their way to Mexico. The two were later caught in Louisiana with help from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Texas Department of Public Safety, Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police.
Both were arrested and are being held without bond while waiting for extradition.
Deputies said their investigation into Resendiz and Lancaster is ongoing, and they would release more information at a later date.
