Constructed in 1926 at 718 Hillsborough Street, the Hillyer Memorial Christian Church has been a place of worship and gathering place for the Raleigh community.
The church was built from stone out of the Raleigh quarry by the craftsmanship and vision of its congregation that began in 1915.

The small group used to hold worship service in the Raleigh police courtroom before their permanent home was built on Hillsborough Street a decade later.
Hillyer Memorial Christian Church has witnessed 100 years of growth and development in and around Raleigh. As downtown has grown, Hillyer remains a cornerstone in the community, committed to serving Raleigh's neighbors with a legacy of worship, hospitality and local outreach and offering a place of faith, hope and belonging.
"This celebration is about much more than a beautiful building," said Rev. Dr. Daniel U'Ren, Senior Minister of Hillyer Memorial Christian Church. "It is a celebration of the people whose faith built this congregation, the generations who have worshiped here, and the countless lives touched by God's grace within and beyond these walls. As we honor our past, we also look forward with hope to the next century of ministry."
The celebration provided historical displays, photo opportunities and a community potluck. There was special music featuring an ensemble from The Raleigh Ringers, The Master's Men, the Hillyer Community Chorus and other musicians. A time capsule from the 1926 cornerstone was also unearthed. Inside was a bible, a newspaper, a list of charter members of the church and other artifacts.
