Authorities are investigating a homemade firebomb found on Sunday on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
According to the National Parks Service, rangers and agents from the Asheville Police Department’s bomb squad, FBI and SBI responded to reports of a suspicious item found in a dirt pull-off around 11:45 p.m. Sunday on the Blue Ridge Parkway near the intersection to the Folk Art Center.

The Center was evacuated, and a section of the parkway was closed as a precaution while the device was removed.
Authorities later said the device was an “improvised incendiary device,” and there are no known threats to the public.
