A driver who was hit by a pickup truck on Interstate 40 West will be charged with a DWI, according to the State Highway Patrol early Sunday morning.
SHP said that just before 2 a.m., a car traveling on I-40 W near Jones Sausage Road ran off the road and hit a barrier. When the driver got out to check their car, they were hit by an oncoming pickup truck.

The truck then spun and hit another car in the process.
The driver of the first car was taken to WakeMed with serious injuries, but is expected to recover. The other two drivers were not hurt.
The first driver is to be charged with DWI and operating a vehicle without a license.
SHP did not provide details on the drivers' identities.
