An inmate at the Moore County Detention Center died Sunday morning, according to the Moore County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff’s office said Judith Gossett, 60, was found unresponsive in her cell by officers around 10:15 a.m. Detention staff began emergency protocols immediately before EMS took her to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

She was later pronounced dead at the hospital, the sheriff's office said. Gossett had been in custody since Tuesday for defrauding a drug screening test.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is now leading the investigation into her death.
