Raleigh police said one person has died and another is in the hospital after a crash closed a part of Interstate 440 between Glenwood Avenue and Lake Boone Trail for hours on Friday.
In a release sent Saturday afternoon, the department said officers and tow trucks were already on scene responding to an initial crash involving several cars around 9:30 p.m.

Preliminary investigation determined that a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jack Neville was speeding on I-440 and failed to reduce speed for traffic and the crash. His vehicle struck the rear left corner of a 2007 Pontiac Vibe.
The impact caused the Pontiac to be redirected toward the outside shoulder, where it struck the driver of the Pontiac, Eduardo Valdez, who was standing beside it. Valdez died at the scene.
Neville was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, exceeding a safe speed for conditions and failure to reduce speed. The investigation remains ongoing.
In the release sent Saturday, Raleigh police did not mention the condition of the person in the hospital but officers told WRAL News Friday night that the person in the hospital is expected to be OK.
