Durham police have filed 296 juvenile petitions against five teenagers in a series of motor vehicle break-ins in the city between late December 2024 and mid-January 2025.
Those involved include one 14-year-old male, two 15-year-old males, one 16-year-old female and one 17-year-old male. They're linked to multiple motor vehicle break-ins that occurred at 11 different locations between Dec. 26, 2024, and Jan. 19, 2025.

The 14-year-old juvenile and a 15-year-old juvenile were also charged in the Jan. 25 incident in Orange County where shots were fired at a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper during a vehicle pursuit that involved a stolen vehicle from Durham.
Additionally, the 14-year-old is the same teen charged in the Jan. 11 murder of Aryion "AJ" Clendenning. Clendenning was shot at Magnolia Pointe Apartments on Danube Lane in Durham.
More charges are forthcoming in the break-ins, most of which involved forced entry. Guns and credit cards were among the items stolen.
The break-ins occurred along Lumley Road, Roche Drive, S. Miami Boulevard, Shakespeare Drive, Chapel Hill Road and Mt. Moriah Road, among other places.
All of the juveniles were taken into custody.
