People across Wayne and Johnston counties said they heard a loud boom around 9 p.m. Monday.
Johnston County resident Rich Girard shared security camera footage with WRAL News in which you can hear the loud boom ringing out.

Walter Vaughn also heard the sound from his home in Wayne County.
"I was just getting ready to go to bed," he said. "We heard this loud sound. It sounded to me like something fell."
Vaughn described the sound as a loud bang, thinking it could have been something falling from his attic. Upon investigation, he said it was clear that wasn't it.
"My granddaughter and daughter said it shook their beds," he said.
In a Facebook post, some people said they thought the sound was related to a house fire on Riverbend Road.
WRAL News confirmed with Wayne County officials that was not the case.
Some people speculated that the noise could have been caused by a sonic boom.
WRAL News reached out to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base to ask about that possibility.
In a statement a spokesperson said the following.
"Seymour Johnson Air Force Base did have training flights with our F-15E jets yesterday. However, none of our aircraft generated the speeds necessary to create a loud boom."
WRAL News has covered a long history of loud booms throughout the area, many of them going unexplained.
